'FIREFLY'....
If you've never heard of it, you are not alone as too many weren't able to locate it on their television screens [some say due to FOX policies] , resulting in its cancelation far too soon, after only a couple of handfuls of episodes...
Don't let it being described unappeallingly as a "space western" deter you, as remarkably, its fully 'fleshed-out' NINE[!!] main characters provided viewers tremendous payback in exchange for watching. So much so, that the decison was made to release it to DVD, where word of mouth made it an unforseen [...pun intended :o] bestseller, leading to even MORE outcry [or maybe just 'cry'-ing] of its extinction...

'SERENITY'
as, knowing an audience was clambering for one, a sequel movie was green-lit. Both the TV Show and the movie came from the same mind who created 'BUFFY' [see below], 'ANGEL', 'SPIKE', and after, 'DOLL HOUSE', ....JOSS WHEDON!

JOSS was also just recently recruited by MARVEL COMICS to write the first 24 issues [now available in collected form in both hardcover & soft] of an out of direct continuity [easier to follow] 'ASTONISHING X-MEN' comic perfect for new or old readers....

It remains one of the BEST STORYLINES Marvel has produced in the 21 century, alongside 'The Ultimates' [ sophisticated modern take on 'The Avengers'], 'Civil War' [realisticly completely changed the dynamics of Marvel], and many of its 'STEPHEN KING' [The Stand, Dark Tower...], 'ORSON SCOTT CARD' [Ender's Game...], JANE AUSTEN [yes, Jane Austen(!!), famous chick-book author, but WE like her 2!], and WIZARD OF OZ [plus sequel-books] lines of 'graphic novels'....

-----Book: "After the Earth was used up, we found a new solar system and hundreds of new Earths were terraformed and colonized. The central planets formed the Alliance and decided all the planets had to join under their rule. There was some disagreement on that point. After the War, many of the Independents who had fought and lost drifted to the edges of the system, far from Alliance control. Out here, people struggled to get by with the most basic technologies; a ship would bring you work, a gun would help you keep it. A captain's goal was simple: find a crew, find a job, keep flying."

The Central Planets, thems formed the Alliance, waged war to bring everyone under their rule; a few idiots tried to fight it, among them myself. I'm Malcolm Reynolds, captain of Serenity. She's a transport ship; Firefly class. Got a good crew: fighters, pilot, mechanic. We even picked up a preacher for some reason, and a bona fide companion. There's a doctor, too, took his genius sister outta some Alliance camp, so they're keepin' a low profile. You understand. You got a job, we can do it, don't much care what it is."
