DC Comics Goes For The 'Brains Of Brian' With New Justice League Series!
DC Comics Naomi comic book broke new ground in many different ways, as a minority character with adoptive parents, as a fresh young new character taking away the spotlight from one of DC Comics oldest (Clark Kent) in her own rarified spotlight mini-series (something seldom green-lit by the publisher without previous appearances), & as then-newly recruited covetted writer (with character :o) Brian Michael Bendis's first real ground-up creation since making the move from his 'royal palace' status at DC's distinguished competition, Marvel Comics.
She, yes 'she', has come a long way in such a short time, like her off-panel father, comics 'Mr B', their ascensions are mixing perfectly as both will find a home in DC's mightiest of monthlies, the 'BIG GUNS' of a newly relaunched Justice League 2021 title, covers BELOW.
2021's Justice League by Brian Michael Bendis & David Marquez (Miles Morales, Iron Man, Batman/Superman) brings with it a old /new line-up of Superman, Batman, The Flash, Hawkgirl, Aquaman, Wonder Woman's Mom Hippolyta, the previously mentioned standout Naomi, and Dc Comics newest movie star Black Adam!
As seen below, this new Justice League #1 will have special Zack Snyder's Justice League Variant covers meant to preview & celebrate the release of the show / movie / mini-series.

Brian Micheal Bendis just finished up his warmly recieved Superman writing gig, handling the everlasting 'Action Comics', now over 1000 numbers into its 10th decade of publication, & its companion 'Superman' title for aprox a 2 year 60+ comic run.
DC Comics had just recently let it be known that it was no longer going to retaining creators in presumably expensive long term exclusive contracts, as a cost-cutting measure from above, it's corporate ladder leaders, so Bendis is no longer beholden only to DC, freeing him up for many other projects.
Another head-scratcher decision by DC, cutting costs there is a strange adage, constricting a tiny droplet of funds in the medium producing the content which enables billion dollar gross potential while spending dozen times that jamming in extra special effects into productions consensus states are already overblown with them!
SFX vs the creation of Naomi, just this one Bendis written character who DC editorial seems to encourage as a member of it's long-time showcase for only the primes cuts of the DCU, surely is paying for itself simply by being a diverse 'welcome' outstretched to non-traditional readers of superhero content, a lucrative market far outpacing the DC Universe's current page followers.
Not to mention, the 'cost' of Naomi will start to look even more minimal once she starts appearances in animation, live action, & on the precious 'lunchbox licensing' ledger later. This, even at what had to be one of the most expensive exclusive contracts (getting Brian Michael Bendis) of the past 20 years within the comics medium.
Late in 2017 the news hit like a titanic-blow, the creator behind almost every major success Marvel had had since 2000 had been painstakenly head hunted & had agreed to leave the 21st century 'House of Ideas' his hand had had a very powerful stake in planting & blooming like never before in Marvel Comics History!
As it turns out #DCComics got great value out of 'The Brains Of Bendis" as, even though the exact dollar figures of the (now expired) exclusive contract were only privy to those whose names were attached to it & their accountants, characters like #DCNaomi will remain 'cash non BAT Cows' for decades to come!
And we are lucky, because it seems like #BMB #Bendis is far from done playing with the DC Comics Universe and its rotating cast of the Justice League role call 2021 picked from the #DCU!

As DC's current output on the comic book page front goes, it would seem very needed, as Batman related content, which sits at a risky almost 50% of DC's publishing output, could do with some non-BAT in-house competition, because, as its distinguished competition, Marvel Comics can attest, sometimes you can build a kingdom out of 2nd, 3rd, 4th stringers.
( Note: As this is being written, one of the most unlikeliest of statements just a few months ago, let alone years ago is now true:
"WandaVision is one of the most watched programs in North America."
That, again, is a sequential live action engaging program with state of the art SFX, intriging plots & script, & huge interest by the public, featuring those eternals of Marvel Comics fame, standouts Wanda Maximoff, The Scarlet Witch, & The Vision!
....Of course you'd know them as those uber-popular stars of an Avengers movie, playing '8th & 9th bananas' as it were ....Well played, & well laid ...plans that is, which lead to this happening....)
Putting a lot of eggs in one basket is never a wise idea when it comes to safe investment strategies & that might even include copyrighted entities 80+ years old...
Or maybe DC is trying to squeeze, sorry maximize, as much as they can get before some other questions are addressed, like:
-What does DC Do once BATMAN becomes public domain after 95 years?
95 years after, a creation becomes eligible to enter publice domain, meaning the copyright expires on whatever version was produced back then.
