Venom is coming for you!
Venom 2 coming soon previews the King In Black comic book mini-series which highlights the hot new character Knull, a God, who like many of them, just LOVES to be worshiped, especially by their #1 fan, themselves of course!
Venom (Eddie Brock) has hosted, for a few years now, thanks to a new writer Donny Cates, a dark version of a must-read Spider-man related title, self-titled VENOM, also co-staring at times, Carnage (Cletus Kasady), Norman Osborn (Green Goblin), Lee Price, Ghost-Spider (Gwen Stacy), Dylan Brock (Eddie's SON), Ann Weying, & Knull, the King of Black!
Knull is a God, trapped & wants to be free again, & has taken control of whatever Kull can get to in order to be free!
"Knull smash punny humans!", would be a hapless understatement in the devious mind of this super-intelligent being fixated on taking unique steps bent on overtaking evolution & devestating it all back to 'the black', what came before the universe, & in his mind, what should have remained...
Venom, the ongoing mostly monthly story has blown up so much,
with some of the monthly numbers
[...Comics numbering begins at one & works its way up ( #1, #2, #3,..)with each newly published issue..] needing to go back to print 5 or 6 times to satisfy the increased demand for this, a retro-fitted extention of former Spider-man villian, Venom's backstory...
Where-as Venom used to be "PUBLIC ENEMY #1" in the life of a certain Peter Parker, for ages playing the spoiler role in the late 1980s to mid 1990s, the then latest chapter in the down on his luck, 'dumb Parker Luck' made famous by long-time writer of the webhead & MARVEL COMICS magician co-creator of almost everything sacred there, Mr STAN LEE!
The latest King In Black issue showcases the cost of what being a father, criminal, hero, & lost soul trying to find yourself when most of the times that have made a difference in your life, positive or negative, it has been a part of you that didn't come at birth, and continues to haunt every waking moment of your life as a creature that can not always be controled, yet still consumes & hungers for you...
Expanding the Venom comic that was already a fan feasting meal serving to a rabid & hungry audience was hardly needed for sales to continue to justify giving the former spider-man villian back a [not long-gone] monthly comic again...
However, newly positioned writer Donny Cates was certainly up for it, fresh off a stint creating a new future herald for Thanos, an interestingly enticing Ghost Rider gone cosmic named Frank Castle [a name known historically round Marvel Comics Netflix The Punisher TV Show ] who took multiple issues of the Avengers Endgame villian comic into comics 'rarity territory', that of reaching 3rd, 4th, & 5th printings of key comics!
Having Venom comics going into multiple printings isn't really that new to any Spider-man comic book reader over the past 30 years or so, as the character has maintained huge popularity over that time...
Before doing something so dumb it may have been brilliant, Marvel Comics developed a situation where everytime its most popular hero, an active webslinger having an even MORE hectic schedule back then than even today, featured this creepy, cookey, & combative new villian, their sales went through the rooff!!
...Truthfully, not the worst problem a booming pre-presentable-movies comic book company could have, made even moreso by Marvel Comics, along with its "distinguished competition", DC Comics, having just been fleeched of much of its high level superstar artistic talent in an action just short of a mutiny.
Venom co-creator himself, and more popular than any work-for-hire artist should be ( it sure seemed like it from all sides :o ), Todd McFarlane, the artist who drew such an iconic Peter Parker in costume; Marvel changed forever how Spidey would be drawn because of him; .....that guy, had just took his ink pot & went home.
Home for Marvel Comics was beginning to look a little less homey, & a lot more bean-counting, as many familiar faces found new homes at Mr McFarlane's upstart fearless new publishing company Image Comics, which was doing its best to ruin the 'tea party' the big two had been enjoying at their own exclusive table for 30+ years.
To make matters worse, Marvel had just been put on alert, the creators that is, that a continued expansion would be the marching orders from above, despite the competition, mo' money, mo' money, mo' money, was quickly becoming mid 1990s Mighty Marvel's Mantra, or at least one of them...
The sheer overwhelming demand for this crazy new black costumed body-builder with a hate-on for Peter Parker lent itself to some swift testing of the waters in the pool of the Marvel Universe, meaning the villain was soon subjected to the industry's historic coming of age test, becoming a 'guest-star'!
Working similar to TV & Movie-Land, plugging in 'a potential' (new character) into a proven, can shed light as to the real interest in seeing them more often...
Sometimes, with a winner, sales will increase on a lower-selling title simply because the demand to read & see more of the 'guest-star' pushes more people to tryout an existing series...
After gigs propping-up many of Marvel Comics minor mainstays, Eddie Brock, VENOM, had fully arrived, having taken the path of other anti-heroes before him, such as GHOST RIDER, PUNISHER, & WOLVERINE, who all were rewarded for their burgeoning focus on by readers eager to see more...
....this meant a chance to headline their own comic book title!
It seemed like Eddie Brock was well up to that task!
VENOM, the character has made well over one thousand appearances in comics now, proving to be quite the power-broker in Marvel Comics stable of nicely fleshed-out examples of how to grow a successful franchise (hello movies, merchandising :o) out of another even more successful franchise (SPIDER-MAN / PETER PARKER).
As we all know, comics can be lucrative, & hitting the sweet spot, even if it is with a black gooey thing from space, can pay off big!
With 200+ self-titled VENOM COMICS so far, at least three live-action VENOM movies so far, yes 'Tobey vs Topher' counts, & many more animated ones, it is a sure thing this Venomous 'VENOM-2-US' formula will continue to flow...
